Hebrew School Humour
With Tishrei behind us and school all around, many of us find ourselves enjoying a few hours a week in Hebrew School. Preparing, entertaining rowdy kids, talking to parents... face it; Hebrew School keeps us busy. Here are a some true stories told by Hebrew School teachers just like you. Snow covered the streets as I trudged towards the door of my Hebrew school. Chanuka was definitely just around the corner.

I gathered my students around the desk and told them I had something very special to show them. It is something we us for the holiday that's coming up. (Just to be sure they knew, I reminded them that the holiday was Chanuka and not anything else.) I carefully pulled silver Chanukiah out of my bag and asked if anyone knew what it was called. With a proud and anxious smile little Benny blurted out, " a Chanuka tree!" "Does anyone know why we pray?' I asked my Grade One class. We discussed the topic and talked about all the prayers in our siddur. The kids looked through the siddur and davened beautifully. To review I decided to ask a few questions: "What is a siddur?" Shawn raised his hand thoughtfully and began to explain, "it's when your mom and dad are not home so they get this lady to come and she tells you stories." Apparently he had heard 'sitter'!
